Well, that discussion throws me back 10 years behind, when we started Sphinx Vision in France. We've been fighting against windmills since remote surveillance professionals did not like the idea to share resources and work on a common server. Intranet has been the only exit door but it opened on traditional CCTV market where Web interface was not the perfect fit. Programming paradigms have changed, web services have made their way out of the labs. From Amazon to Ebay, everybody realizes the power of hosted applications. All the best for 2010.
