We talk a lot about Software as a Service (SaaS) for video here. But how about a different take? Service with Software or SwihS!
Perhaps “Service with Software” emphasizes that Service comes first.
I say this as sometimes SaaS is viewed as scheme to apply a monthly recurring charge for software versus a “perpetual license” or one-time software license fee. The difference is the service.
And a huge difference here is the way that the software is paid for. WIth a recurring fee, the service provider lives or dies by their monthly revenue. The service provider must perform and meet the needs of their customer.
With a one-time license, the software maker only has to really perform up until the point of the sale. Once you’ve bought the product, you’ve got what you paid for. If it doesn’t do what you need it to in 3-6 months, well, tough. With SaaS (or SwihS) the customer constantly has leverage to get what they need.
