Managed Video as a Service

The place to learn about and discuss Managed Video as a Service

A major advantage of MVaaS being a Internet hosted service is that it naturally lends itself to sharing and collaboration of your private video, keeping it private if you want it and allowing it to be shared as you wish.

Why would you want to do that? For one, granting access to your video to emergency services could be very useful.

Here’s an example that I think we’re going to see a LOT more of.  Over at Shawn Flaugher’s blog I read about how the Manchester (UK) police department is using Facebook as an information sharing tool.

The application above can give you streaming crime updates for the area. But here’s another twist, one can also report crime or suspicious incidents through the application. What a great example of adding additional ways for citizens to participate in their community.

This kind of sharing and collaboration is a natural for hosted Internet services like Facebook. A proper MVaaS service could follow suit and allow one to control exactly who has access to video. This way you can keep it private until one chooses to share it.
