The place to learn about and discuss Managed Video as a Service

A common question is what is really the benefit of using MVaaS versus simply hosting the software at my enterprise? In other words, why not just buy a software package that supports all the MVaaS features via a web interface, but install it myself in my datacenter?

I am starting today a series of posts that will explore the pros and cons of these two scenarios. To begin with I’ll start with a diagram of the enterprise hosted model.

The general model is that the customer deploys an enterprise video management system in their corporate datacenter. Each remote location is connected to that datacenter via a VPN. Remote video is captured at each location using a DVR and all the DVRs are interconnected via the VPN network. Typically, a user could connect to the enterprise hosted application and then interact with any of the remote video sites

I call this configuration the Enterprise Hosted Model. I’ll introduce the MVaaS model next. After that, I’ll provide a series of posts with the pros and cons of each model.

Not particularly related to your blog post of today, just general feedback: A lesson in blogging was given today by John Honovitch over at IP Video Market Info. I've been following your blog for months. I guess Security Dreamer will have mentioned you as an up & coming, and I started watching (I can't really recall). I know that on May 12th I starred an article called 'How to talk about video quality' as being useful and something I might like to refer back to, so it shows that I've been receiving your posts for some months. Daily, I receive into my Google Reader feed one or two articles from you. Mostly just the excerpt start of the article (not great – don't make me click just to find out what the topic really is). I will have clicked-through to your blog a few times, but I'd gotten out of the habit, and for some time had not bothered to read your posts. Essentially, I had no idea what it was you produced, or why I might promote it. Today, in one blog post, John Honovitch has explained clearly to me what you do, and it's benefits. I understand it. I like the sound of what it is you do. I discussed exactly this sort of application with a retailer earlier today. Will your solution be available to the UK Market? I don't mean to be rude to you. It's interesting more than anything else. I'm a techie fellow. Your solutions are in an area of core interest to me, and yet, we can only marvel at the fact that you've said so much, so often, and that I'd tuned out and just wasn't getting it. Interestingly, Marketing & Internet guru Seth Godin has posted this very day on the subject of whether your audience is listening …? As he says, if they're not listening, you won't be making any Sales!! Maybe back to basics …..

Hi, Thanks for the comments! Our goal is to make this an industry blog as opposed to an Envysion blog. We all probably have alot of improvement ahead of ourselves on that front.
