Managed Video as a Service

The place to learn about and discuss Managed Video as a Service

In the 1979 version of When a Stranger Calls, babysitter Jill Johnson (played to perfection by Carol Kane) is repeatedly called by a person whom she does not know. The caller, in a calm and deliberate manner, continues to ask her “Have you checked the children?” Obviously concerned by the harassment, Jill Johnson calls the police for help. Who wouldn’t?

For those of you who have not seen the film, you may view the climax of the scene below. Great seventies film-making!

What you may not know is where this post is heading. What does this have to do with Managed Video? Any guesses?

If the calls were managed, in this example, it would be easy to pinpoint the caller, and the origination point of the calls.

We are seeing serious demand for managed video conferencing. Even though some vendors have made the call set-up incredibly simple, there are plenty of firms (and executives) who don’t have the time or patience to learn. Soooooooo, there is a large market for a ‘white gloves’ managed video service.

Dave, Excellent guess, thanks for posting. Your thesis is true. If Jill had managed call capability (or perhaps caller ID) she would not have needed the police to trace the call. However, I’m driving towards another important aspect of MVaaS.

If I remember the movie correctly; the checking of the children was the lure to get the baby sitter upstairs to meet her demise.

Had the house been outfitted with a video based security system the babysitter and/or police would have been able to “check the children” remotely through a web GUI without going upstairs.
